Unpopular Cultural Reflections

Random observations and questions.

The biggest problem with social media is that it causes us to worry about the things we can’t control and ignore the things we can.

Why do people enjoy entertainment that mocks them?

People who hate will always find an object. People who love will always find an object. It’s a choice between self-torment (Tolstoy) and tranquility.

If the goal of the PC movement is to create one big safe space, to produce a warm and fuzzy culture, it is failing miserably. Suppression of speech is a poor choice of tactics for cultivating love. Instead it intensify conflict by making the suppressors more aggressive and the suppressed more embittered.

If no two people are alike, then how can anyone be objective?

Sensationalism sells.
